NGC 147 and 185 are both Dwarf Elliptical galaxies, characterized by spherical form and not much detail. They form a binary system in a stable orbit around our galactic neighbor M31, the Andromeda galaxy. That makes them members of our Local Group of galaxies. Because of their dimensions they are classified as dwarf galaxies. NGC147 has dimensions of 7,5 kly X 11 kly, while NGC185 has diameter of some 7,8 kly. That is not much compared to M31 which is some 250 kly across. They are about 2.2 Mly distant. |
