Flaming Star Nebula is surrounding energetic star AE Aurigae, which is responsible for light the nebula is emitting. Red light is emitted by hydrogen gas ionized by the star's radiation. Blue light is the star's light reflected by the surrounding dust clouds. Intertwining dust and gas lanes give the nebula its stunning flame look responsible for its name. IC405 is 1500 ly distant and its diameter is 5 ly.
